When it comes to upgrading software, people are always quick to jump the gun. I can remember people lining up hours before the stores open to get their copy of Windows Vista. I bet most regretted that.
With all software upgrades, and new releases, companies in a rush to get to market, release their software to the market when it has not been beta tested thoroughly.

There are many reasons for it, but the biggest is the profit-driven nature of the beast. When bugged software is dumped on to the masses, it makes us all become their beta-tester. There are times to be at the forefront and times not to be.
With the new release of WordPress 2.7, do yourself a favor and hold off from the temptation to upgrade. In particular you should be especially cautious if you are using a non-default WordPress Theme and/or Plugins.
I will publicly predict right here, right now, that there will be bugs and there will be non-compatible Themes and there will be non-compatible Plugins.
If you are patient, and wait for bug fixes, theme, and plugin upgrades, you can make the transition a better experience and save yourself the stress, and embarrassment caused by lost sales and lost traffic.
I bet you are thinking: “If everybody thought like the Ape, then no software product would ever have a chance to succeed.” You know something, you are 100% correct.
I know human nature and there will be enough suckers people non-voluntary beta testers out there to ensure that the kinks are worked out. I will just hang out and watch all of the people bitch and complain when their blogs go down and gleefully say “I told ya so”

That’s Stupid. After bug testing you get the latest version. There are geniuses behind the scenes you can’t see who work day and night so that you may save from trouble of moving your a** for such big software development issues. Your rubbish prediction. Already many plugins have been upgraded to meet the latest release. There are no bugs and incompatibility. I have upgraded it and seen it all. The new release is way to speedy and with turbo tools. Infact you want to save ur a** from hackers, upgrade right away. Sorry for bad language. Some ppl are emotional for WordPress and can’t hear nonsense about it.

Dear Hiroshi
How wrong you are. Go ahead and be a sucker. I have been down that road before. You need a life lesson. Enjoy!

So let us proceed with todays lesson boys and girls.
WordPress 2.7 bugs:
1 – The WYSIWYG editor screws up when using the “TinyMCE Plugin
2 – Recent Drafts date is January 1, 1970
3 – WP-Grin plugin – Comments showing emoticons in the wrong place
4 – CSS issues with buttons
5- Can’t move the QuickPress box
That is just a start. Just as I predicted WordPress is being swamped with bug reports and now they are already getting to release Version 2.7.1.
As I said before, at the dismay to at least one blind lemming, WAIT. Stay the course. Do not upgrade until they have a good stable release and developers have time to fix their plugins.
Stay tuned for more…I am sure that I will be slammed some more but no matter…I am right and Hiroshi’s of the world are wrong.

I just upgraded to WordPress 2.7.1 yesterday and today I noticed I have no categories. Very frustrating. Now I have to figure out where they went and how to get them back. I should have waited. I backed the site up but since I didn’t realize they were missing for a whole day I will loose comments if I restore it.

Hello Brian,
I was thinking about this the other day and whether I should now be recommending to my readership that now is the time to upgrade. I did download 2.7.1 and installed it on a test blog that I run. I was not impressed. I find the whole admin section cumbersome and poorly designed.
I let it go at that as I thought that it may have been just me and something I need to get used to. But based on your comments, I will not be upgrading anytime soon.
Hold on to your less than 2.7 version of WordPress folks. Why take a chance on losing your data?
