Bank of America Mastercard – Leave Home Without It

Bank of America is screwing over Canadians. So is the government of Canada, as well as Uncle Sam. Come on now. Give me a freakin’ break. 50 years of boycotting Cuba? The big and evil Cuba?

I have some advice for the US Administration…Get Over It. Your cold-war mentality is as outdated as leaded gasoline, the mullet, a Vic 20, and yes even Charo.

It is that time of year when Canadians start flocking to their favorite Caribbean destinations, and one of the most popular is Cuba. If you are one of the lucky ones heading to Cuba, don’t take your MasterCard. Leave it at home. It won’t be accepted. Why you ask? The reasons, as you can guess, rest in my opening comments.

This really pisses me off. A series of events, allowed by the Harper Government, have screwed over Canadians. In October 2007, when Bank of America Corporation acquired the credit card business of Regina-based CU Electronic Transaction Services (CUETS), they bought the largest issuer of MasterCard credit cards in Canada.

As soon as that happened most Canadians, owning a MasterCard, fell under the umbrella of US Foreign Policy and its petty embargo on Cuba. You see Bank of America does not process Canadian transactions in Canada. They are processed in the USA, thus falling under US law.

UN-FREAKIN’-BELIEVABLE. How can the government of Canada allow Canadian sovereignty to be ripped out from us? Sure we are in a global economy but Prime Minister Harper, is this the price? Your government has to approve all foreign takeovers. You should ensure that when a US company, or any foreign company for that matter, decides to buy out a Canadian company that they are given 2 choices:

1) Become compliant with Canadian Foreign Policy.

OR

2) Pack their bags and go home with their money. The deal is off.

It is as simple as that Mr. Harper. Simple is as simple does because there are two things going on here. Either you don’t care or you are incompetent. Take your pick because either one is scary behavior for our nation’s leader.

Do you think that the USA would allow this to happen if the situation were reversed? Two words for you ‘Lumber Tariffs’
