Amit Goswami, Ph.D ON Quantum Physics & Consciousness, Why do we all feel separate. Amit Goswami’s blog is located here: www.amitgoswami.org His new movie, which is being directed by BlueDotProductions is located here www.quantumactivist.com
As a cardiologist, Pim van Lommel was struck by the number of his patients who claimed to have near-death experiences as a result of their heart attacks. As a scientist, this was difficult for him to accept: Wouldn’t it be scientifically irresponsible of him to ignore the evidence of these stories? Faced with this dilemma, van Lommel decided to design a research study to investigate the phenomenon under the controlled environment of a cluster of hospitals with a medically trained staff.
For more than twenty years van Lommel systematically studied such near-death experiences in a wide variety of hospital patients who survived a cardiac arrest. In 2001, he and his fellow researchers published his study on near-death experiences in the renowned medical journal The Lancet. The article caused an international sensation as it was the first scientifically rigorous study of this phenomenon. Now available for the first time in English, van Lommel offers an in-depth presentation of his results and theories in this book that has already sold over 125,000 copies in Europe.
Van Lommel provides scientific evidence that the near-death phenomenon is an authentic experience that cannot be attributed to imagination, psychosis, or oxygen deprivation. He further reveals that after such a profound experience, most patients’ personalities undergo a permanent change. In van Lommel’s opinion, the current views on the relationship between the brain and consciousness held by most physicians, philosophers, and psychologists are too narrow for a proper understanding of the phenomenon. In Consciousness Beyond Life, van Lommel shows that our consciousness does not always coincide with brain functions and that, remarkably and significantly, consciousness can even be experienced separate from the body.

Now this is what they call pseudo-science or quantum-foolishness. It’s a shame that many people do not see that.

@larbo1616 Agreed, it’s up to the reader to be objective and spend time researching both sides of every story. I am still on this quest, there are list of things so far that classical physics can’t explain that quantum theories can. Only time will tell, as technology increases so will the ability of man to produce more accurate experimentation. The quest for knowledge is never ending.

@silentgi771 I started with these kinds of books as well. The problem with me is, I don’t even know if I can believe them. They don’t include the skepticism, and they only tell us the “good” results of the experiments. So the results that proved that there is “more”.

No disrespect or anything, but thats just a good sci-fi stuff. And I mean it really IS good, but i’m not buying it as a scientific-theory.
Plus, he lost me at chicken and egg: the chicken-egg clearly came first from a non-chicken bird.
But I guess after you’ve done a PhD in QM, you’re allowed to go psueudo-physics right ? No really I mean a guys gotta thought “Here I’ve spend like 30 years studying it and I’m nowhere near a TOE, hell with it I’m hittin me some bowl and going spiritual! sup Osho”

He shouldn’t be putting all this in the frame-work of quantum theory. It is just a propaganda thing. As far as I see it, science does a good job at making our material life easier and we should stick to that. After all science is also a bunch of concepts and the truth is definitely prior to concepts and can never ever be expressed in terms of concepts.

ok so what happens if a non-conscious being observes and object? like a fly or a rat?

If conscious + space-time object = expierence, then conscious – expieerence = space-time object hence, conscious is an expierence as without an expierence, consciousness would not exist just a space-time object as the equation conscious-expierence=space-time object, hence consciousness is caused by expierence not the other way around.

Science doesn’t encounter free will. The conscious observer can be replaced by machines and the results are the same. We don’t fully understand quantum mechanics at the fundamental level but that doesn’t mean that the observer is responsible for the world around us. The way a huge system of particles behave is totally different from the way individual particles behave at the fundamental level. The moon exists whether we observe it or not. This is just woo woo!

I think his point is simple. We’re doing something and at the same time observing this thing that we’re doing. It’s very hard to explain the experience of an event, from an ‘observer’ point of view, because you’re experiencing as well as observing the experience. So, its very confusing as to which and what question to answer. But, i think he’s answering as an observer. He’s not really confusing us.. And his link between the observer and the doer is his field of study, which is Quantum Physics.

Nonsense. a) in quantum physics “observation” does not equal conscious “oberservation”, particles are constantly “measuring” (observing) each other in a non vacuum because of their interactions, independently of the presence of consciousness b) particles do not equal the world as such since the laws of quantum physics do NOT apply to bigger bodies, like an orange or the moon.

so people who follow Amit Goswami’s theory of this collective conciousness being God, and certain meditation being a practise of this, what do you call yourself? a quantum activists? is there a simpler name version because the ‘activists’ bit will freak people out.

@987jodi no consciousness is not energy, it is not matter. It is something beyond this.

His whole argument seems to hinge upon the answer to who or what choses which possible quantum outcome. This does not equal consciousness to me as by definition of randomness, nothing is choosing: the randomness is just a property of matter on a quantum level. I think it is a flawed assumption to even pose the question. Furthermore, even assuming something is choosing the outcome of these quantum events, whatever is doing the choosing is still subject to the laws of probability.

He says that there is no mathematical description of the consciousness or “subject” as he calls it in making measurements using quantum mechanics, but all of the facts regarding the frame of reference (how it is moving, etc,) are crucial to how the measurement turns out. Doesn’t “frame of reference”=”consciousness” if you are talking about a person making a measurement? If so, it is (must be) described mathematically.

I discovered a random game act of how it can be created imagine 0 represents life, and the more zeros in a number the more evolved and conscious the creature is, so take the two digits that each represent something (Laws of Physics and Matter to be acted on) I realized that if the two numbers where 325 and 2, then 325×2, and x2 and x2 so on, can reach two zeros yet no more, but 982×2 cannot evolve any life, and 500×10 can result in life with no max evolution.
