Using the Barbary Pirates as an example of the US starting a war is absolutely absurd and, imo, takes away any credibility this guest has. Piracy has been against the international laws of nations since ancient Greece and if government has any role whatsoever, it is to protect people from violent attack by outlaws (pirates, looters, goldman sachs, JP morgan, etc). It was a bare-bones expedition of only a few ships and it got the job done. It was not imperialistic – nothing was taken.

Volatilsm, – It’s as good as LOOTING.
Like you make other part as vulnerable and weak as possible. Than take away his possessions. That’s how they make LOTS OF money.

@bwigod4518 I think you misunderstand the situation. Politicians are elected by the public to serve them – theoretically. But the system is such that only those with corporate backing can make it and thus they serve the corporations not the public. Capital has usurped the political order. So the USA does not have a government at all – in the constitutional sense. The USA is ruled by a financial elite who own Wall St & the Fed. Eg Geitner is a Fed employee. He does not serve the American people.

@Drastam Indeed I was wrong with the spelling, and I did read your comment. This was my take, and please tell me where I am wrong. The US would be a better place if it wasn’t for those evil corporations and the lobbyists are the reason that gov’t is doing the evil. My feeling is that the gov’t created these corporations and help to protect them and wage wars on their behalf. Neither on is virtuous and both in fact collude to create the mess we have. Gov’t = root of evil b/c they have the guns.

@bwigod4518 It’s ad hominem actually.
You did not even bother to read my comment properly and your reply was an outright insult. That’s all I have to say.

August 16th, 2010 at 10:10 pm
@Drastam That is an Ad Homonym attack and you made it because you know that you have no leg to stand on. Come back to the table when you are done trying your Constitution and hoping in your politicians. The saying “power corrupts absolutely” was made because it is true. No man should have any authority over another man and until you realize that, you are the one that is ignorant. I would not go so far as to call you that, as you have so rudely called me, because you were here watching the video.

@Drastam So the gov’t either does not want to stop the problems of which you write or has no power to. That is why we need to go away from monopolized violence (i.e. taxes and war) and go toward a voluntary society of individual contracts. Evolve my friend. You see the problem, but are not being intellectually honest.

Stefan’s is not a correct analysis of what government is per se. That is what government has devolved into in the USA and elsewhere as a consequence of capitalism. Properly government is an agency that organises social infrastructure for the benefit of citizens; that is has been usurped by capital and runs countries for the benefit of corporations is not a reason to dispense with government but rather to dispense with corporate funding and lobbying of the political system.

Excellent! Though we may spread nonaggression, we must also make a plan to deal with aggression when it occurs. Also, direct the admiration towards those who help; like doctors, scientists, philosopher, teachers… Make these types the glamorous, and people may follow their example being objective and helpful. Judge each man not by the money and power he has, but by his accomplishments with life and his morality towards others.

Max, your perspective is very short-sighted calling the American Experiment a failure – it is one of the newest ideas in the grand scheme of things. Tyranny, kings, oligarchy, etc is as old as time and is essentially the default state of nations. Saying the American experiment is a failure is like saying Christian morality is a failure because people do bad things; the idea is good, people are bad, its pretty simple. That’s why you have to limit the government. We let the gov get too big.

@bunsh1ch1 I am indeed. Wish i would have made that one up but i heard it from a lectuer on Mises Institue’s youtube channel.
Btw i like your subscriptions but if you ask me youve got a couple missing. Im sure youve bound to have heard of him but Peter Schiff does awesome youtube vlogs on the economy and in every vid youll get a lot out of it. Peter also has a knack of making some complicated economic principles seem childishly easy, and explains stuff in a way that no one can argue with.

The Constitution is a Trust indenture. The people are the Grantors / Creators, the United States itself is an estate in Trust, and the public servants and all agents under the United States are the effective Trustees of that estate / trust.
The people and their posterity (heirs / descendants) are the beneficiary of that trust.
The purpose of the Constitution is to protect the already-existing un-a-lien-able rights of the people at common law through by the estate.

Molyneux (like many other libertarians) FAIL miserably on the private property rights issue. You cannot divide earth, wind, fire and water into infinite little parcels and assign each man his share to do with his parcel as he pleases. Furthermore, there’s the issue of each man’s proportionate share of such to contend with.
And neither does one “own” his body, for it is controlled by his mother prenatally, and the mortician postmortem. This is absurd atheistic thinking.

If you can’t prove the existence of God, you can’t offer it as a reason to do things differently than what is being done in the present. The overriding deterministic principle in “morals” must be the age old adage “do no harm”. Humanistic and measurable values – i.e. the effect that the actions of the few have on the many must surely be the benchmark for a fair society without the need to resort to religious or metaphysical mumbo jumbo.
Meathead36
August 17th, 2010 at 12:29 pm
Yes a society that dismisses God is a group people each deciding what is correct morally in their on individual minds. Eventually the lowest denominator in this system destroys it. A society without God is doomed to failure. This is the direction we are being led. This is the luciferian system.

It sounds like Mr. Molyneux has never lived outside a comfortable suburb. “The way we live our lives everyday” means so many different things–many of which don’t agree with his happy-go-lucky view of humanity.

biped19
August 17th, 2010 at 2:37 pm
Finally, Molyneux’s theories structurally mean NOTHING unless he, and society, can address the nature of human evil. The truth is that his theory will cycle the same way as all the others in history.

August 17th, 2010 at 2:51 pm
I used to state in recent years that “the american experiment was a failure.” Not anymore. The american experiment was a success until the sociopaths subverted it. Molyneux historical statements are mainly accurate. Unfortunately, it is wrapped in the propaganda that the white settlers were all “bad”, and the native Americans “good.” He contradicts himself a little because as he has stated history is NOT necessarily what you read.

I also think Max is doing a good job explaining things today. Hes slowing well down and stressing the individual points.

Exactly. Anyone who wishes the United States to go to war with Iran, open your wallet and pay your share. Send yourself and/or your family to the middle east to fight it. Go ahead. Nobody is stopping you. Mr. Obama, Mrs. Clinton. Sent yourself or your children to Iran to fight.
