Offerweb called me yesterday and said “What can we do together to make money for both of us?” So I got to thinking about a new experiment that I will try. I scoured through all of their offers and found one that is unique to say the least.
It is about a new product called ‘Perfect Litter‘. A super-light kitty litter product that is safe and biodegradable. Did you know that over 8 billion tons of kitty litter enter the environment each year? Did you know that the most common form of kitty litter is a clay-based product that contains and harmful toxin called sodium bentonite? Cats can get sick or worse when they ingest this stuff while they groom.
I could go on about the virtues of this product forever but when I see a potential money maker I jump all over it. Afterall that is the purpose of this site.
What I like about this is that for every customer who takes advantage of the offer to get a free two-week supply of Perfect Kitty Litter, I will get $12.00 from Offerweb.com. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
So here is my experiment:
Market this product using a Google Adwords Campaign.
1) Identify Target Markets
This is rather obvious. I thought of two:
2) Identify competing ad campaigns of the same product
I Googled ‘perfect litter’ and found NO paid sponsors. This is GREAT. No one to compete with (except any of you who read this and go into direct competition against me.) Also by the time you read this there will be an ad for this product…mine!
3) Identify competing ad campaigns of similar products
I entered in the word kitty litter and it returned a few sponsored links…but not too many. This can mean one of two things:
Being a glass is half full type of ape, I decided to think that the market is ripe for the picking. This leads me to a side note: There is always some degree of risk associated with a business venture. By doing this little experiment I am attempting to minimize my risk and maximize my profits.
Another thing I noticed is that there is no real competition for environmentally friendly kitty litter. Again I think is a good thing.
2) Identify Keywords
Should I or shouldn’t I give you a list of the keywords I am using? To me the keywords I choose are the most important part of the campaign. To share them is a very difficult thing for me to do. People would kill for killer keywords. People pay big bucks for tools to help them identify keywords.
I think that, for this stage of the experiment, I will share the tools I used to generate keywords. At experiments end I will share the actual keywords with you. if you want to compete with me you have to do a little bit of work.
I use three free tools to generate keywords:
Each one will show the popularity of the keywords you input. Always strive to find keywords that are popular search items but not picked up by your competitors. Easy to say, hard to do. Research research research. I spent two hours creating my list and I will be constantly monitoring them, adding new ones, removing others.
3) Set Campaign Expiry Date
Initially I am going to let this campaign run for 5 days. Sales will determine if I continue
4) Set Daily Budget
Initially I am going to set my budget at $40.00 per day so a total campaign budget of $200.00. Again sales will determine if I raise or lower this amount.
Sooooooo…let the experiment commence. I will report my findings daily until the experiment ends.
Monitor this by using my Feedburner RSS Email service. You will receive an email update of every post on this blog in your inbox. All new subscribers are automatically entered in my weekly draw for a free Ape Head t-shirt.
